We have a winner this week: Julia! With 9 points total for getting Mark right on the quickfire and saying no to Gail, Julia won this one, with Rachel and prettypants both coming in at 3 points. Since both of the latter won 6 point in the first week, they are tied with Julia for top overall points.
And on to the show's results:
1. Quickfire — Mark won this 5-ingredient round with his sirloin steak paired with the contrast of turnips and peaches (pictured at left) Though, I think it was just his sideburns that gave him the victory. My favorite part of the round, however, was Richard's total disappointment that his fellow molecular gastronomist didn't love him. They "play in the same sandbox" but didn't share the same vision this week. Richard's a good chef, but it made him swallow some pride a bit and pocket the ego.
2. Winner — A surprise to just about everybody, Andrew pulled ahead with his creativity and execution of jellied glacier and squid ceviche (pictured above, and here's the recipe). I think he has ADHD, however, as he looked like he was having a panic attack at the judge's table.
3. Loser — Valerie brought her whole team down with her soggy pancakes, or blinis or whatever they were (pictured at right, but they look better there than they did on the show). They looked positively unedible ‚ just like the mushrooms from Nikki/Dale.
4. Gail — She was on this week, but didn't really shine in all her usual glory. She didn't complain about anything being undercooked, especially since most things this week were overcooked or cold. Chef Tom did complain about one item undercooked, but alas, that wasn't the question. I may change this since Gail wont be on every week. Any suggestions for a different random question?
